Mirijjawila Dry Zone Botanic Gardens, Hambantota

Located in the Hambanthota district, on the Colombo-Kataragama main road, Mirijjawila Botanical Garden has the Mattala International Airport on its left side and the Hambantota Harbor on its right side. It was allocated as a botanical garden in 2006, prior to which the land was covered with thorny shrubs and abandoned chena lands. It covers a total of 300 acres and is still in the process of being developed into tis full area.

It is situated in the dry zone of the island and is the first Sri Lankan botanical garden developed by local experts for the conservation of dwindling species of trees and shrubs, medicinal herbs and popularizing plants of the dry zone by providing an attractive destination for foreign and local tourists.
