How to Apply Sri Lanka Visa Online ?

Department of Immigration and Emigration Sri Lanka has launched a new e VISA application web platform with effect from 20 April 2024. Purpose of this new e VISA platform is to enhance the efficiency and convenience of visa service Sri Lanka.

Who Can Apply for Sri Lanka e-Visa?    

All eligible nationalities intending to visit Sri Lanka for tourism, business, or transit purposes, whether by air or sea, can apply for the Sri Lanka eVisa through www.srilankaevisa.lk
However, nationals of Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Syria, and North Korea must apply for a visa through the Sri Lankan embassy or the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Sri Lanka.

 

How to apply e Visa to Sri Lanka through new visa platform?

  • Visit the official website of Sri Lanka e Visa www.srilankaevisa.lk 
  • Create an account or log in if you already have one.
  • Fill out the online application form with accurate details.
  • Upload the required documents, including a scanned copy of your passport, a recent photograph, and any additional documents specified for your eVisa category.
  • Pay the eVisa fee securely online using the available payment options. 
  • Once your application is submitted and payment is confirmed, you will receive an acknowledgment receipt and a unique application reference number.
  • Track the status of your e-Visa application online using your reference number.
  • Withing 24 Hrs time, you will receive approved VISA to enter to Sri Lanka. Please download the VISA approval and keep a printed copy with you. It’s not mandatory to take a print but recommend to keep in case required. 

 

Sri Lanka Tourist VISA Fee

Please note there is no VISA fee and its free for China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan and this is only for non-residents / tourist visa / 30 days period / single entry and valid only for following 3 purposes of travel. 

  • Sightseeing / Holidaying
  • Visiting friends and relatives
  • Medical treatment including Ayurvedic and Yoga
  • Participating sports events competition and activities relating to cultural performances

Please note all nationals except above list are need to pay the applicable visa fee. 

 

How to track my Sri Lanka e Visa application? 

Once you complete all required info and complete the payment, you will receive an acknowledgment receipt containing a unique Web Reference Number. This number is important for monitoring your application's progress through the 'Track Status' feature on the website. 
If there is a long delay of approving your Sri Lanka Visa, please enter your reference number https://online.srilankaevisa.lk/lka/en/track-status and check the status of your visa online.Or contact your travel agency in SriLanka and they will assist you in this regard by consultion Department im Immigration Colombo Sri Lanka.

Can I process new application while am having an approved Sri Lanka visa? 
If you already possess a valid Sri Lanka Visa, a fresh e Visa application cannot be lodged until that visa expires or is canceled.

What should I do if my e Visa application has rejected by Sri Lanka immigration?
If your e Visa application is not approved it will be referred to the nearest Sri Lanka Overseas Mission which you can request further assistance or else contact your Sri Lankan travel agent. 

If my Sri Lankan Visa application was unsuccessful, can I get my e Visa fee back?
No, Sri Lankan VISA fee is non-refundable and non - transferable. 

 

What can I do if I make a mistake in my application?
Once visa application is submitted processed and payment is made, you cannot cancel the transaction and the payment cannot be reimbursed.
Therefore, please make sure to double check and enter 100% accurate info. Further you can check the date you entered before confirmation of visa application. 
If you have made an error, it is important that you correct it before confirmation. If you find out later that you have made a mistake, then you will have to submit a fresh application and pay the relevant fee again.

Is there a grace period for Sri Lanka visa?
When your Sri Lanka Tourist Visa is expired, you have 24 hours to leave the country without being fined. Or else contact your travel agent in Sri Lanka and they will assist you for visa extension. 

 

Who can enter Sri Lanka without visa? Who are eligible for Visa Exemptions?
•    Sri Lankan dual citizens.
•    Children up to 21 years of age, whose birth has been registered under section 5(2) of Citizenship Act of 1948.
•    Children under 21 years of age and born in Sri Lanka for Sri Lankan parents who are holding a foreign nationality.

How secured are the payments done through electronic payment cards (credit or debit cards) on ETA web site?

Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka has designed payment gateway of ETA in accordance with the international Cyber security and safety standards.

Am I entitled to use tourist visa for journalism related work, business related?
NO, All tourist Visa holders should not engage himself / herself in any paid / unpaid employments or in any business, media or trade related work upon arrival or during the stay in Sri Lanka.

Can I take my drone with me when I travel to Sri Lanka?

I want to take my pets with me during my stay in Sri Lanka. What Shall I do? Please note 99% of the Sri Lanka hotels are not pet friendly or they do not accept pets. But if you are still need to bring your pet, please contact, Animal Quarantine Office at the Bandaranaike International Airport Colombo or else your travel company in Sri Lanka. 

Can I bring Spirit, Wine and Cigarettes for my personal use?
You can buy Spirit, Wine and Cigarettes at the Duty-Free shops at Bandaranaike International Airport. You are allowed to bring those items only for your personal usage and please consult Airport Custom officials for further clarifications. No foreign tobacco products can use in Sri Lanka. 

Do we have to get any Vaccination when traveling to Sri Lanka (e.g. Yellow Fever vaccination)? People who travel from African and Latin American countries have to get yellow fever vaccination. 

Can I take medicine to Sri Lanka?
Yes.  You can take medicine with you subjected to producing the prescription issued by a certified Medical Practitioner at your country. Always keep a copy of your prescription with your medicine.

 

Documents required at the port of entry in Sri Lanka 

  • A printed copy of your eVisa approval letter. 
  • Your passport with at least six months validity from the date of entry into Sri Lanka.
  • A return ticket or proof of onward travel from Sri Lanka.

Applicants of the below nationalities need to submit yellow fever vaccination certificate on arrival in Sri Lanka in order to comply with international health regulations.
